BABY film review: an Out and Out Thriller

‘A Wednesday’ was a PURE THRILLER by all means. It didn’t have a romantic angle or songs to slacken the pace of the plot. BABY runs on the same track. It lives up to the expectations the audiences have from a Neeraj Pandey Film. This song-less, romance-less film has got everything a thriller movie should have: fantastic background score, a-grade cinematography and above all, a tight script. From start to finish, the movie doesn’t have a single loose moment. What happens in Bollywood thrillers is that crucial moments are pictured without any details. The biggest disappointment was last year’s DHOOM 3. What we get to see in BABY is minute details regarding the script. Everything is LOGICAL here. Even the action choreography is not gravity-defying, but sensible and believable. The casting is perfect: every actor shines in his/her role, no matter how much screen space he/she has been given. (I had the least expectations from Tapsi Pannu, surprisingly, she is so good that she left me craving for more!) Daggubati, Kher, Denzongpa and Menon do justice to their roles, but ultimately it’s Akshay Kumar who steals the show. He looks, talks, walks, behaves like a REAL secret agent. He has adopted this role with such fineness that I wonder why does he waste time in doing those non-sensible films! He was awesome in ‘Special 26’ and is equally good in ‘Baby’. Some lines are good yet I felt the dialogues could have been better. The movie might not appeal to women, but all men would love it for sure. A sequel is promised in the final scene, I hope, the promise will be kept, I seriously do… I give it 4 Stars on 5.
